Staff Spotlight
Cynthia Williams
Service Coordinator
I am Cynthia Denise Williams from a small town in Mississippi. I am an only child and grew up in the care of my grandmother. I spent my entire childhood and teenage years assisting seniors in my community. It is my passion, and I do not think I would fit anywhere else.
I am the resident Service Coordinator and feel I was destined for the position. I have worked at Briarcliff Oaks for over two years, and it has been an honor to interact and serve such a diverse population.
My role and responsibilities are:
- To assist residents with aging in place gracefully while maintaining their independence.
- Establish a genuine rapport with residents and their families to foster trust.
- Assess the needs and interests of the residents annually by conducting nonclinical assessments, intakes, and ADL’s and develop and discuss a plan to accommodate the needs.
- Find support alternatives by building relationships with different service providers and sustain them for residents’ use.
- Provide referrals to different community resources, service providers, and follow up to ensure services are rendered.
- Advocate on behalf of residents on a community, state, and governmental level to make sure they receive quality services and benefits they are entitled to.
- Create, coordinate, and facilitate educational (e.g. life skills, computer training, electronic assistance programs) and health and wellness (e.g. preventative care) programs to teach and empower residents how to live a healthy lifestyle.
- Conduct home inspections to ensure residents keep a safe and sanitary living environment.
- Provide crisis intervention: respond to 911 emergencies, fire safety, intervention requests by family, friends, or management, bereavement, assistance with disastrous events and response to critical incidents.
- Monitor residents as they age in place and locate another level of care if needed.
- Provide case management.
- Provide empathy, conflict resolution, and quality time.
Favorite part of the job:
My favorite part of the job is when I can spend quality time with a resident or a group of residents having a casual spontaneous conversation full of fun and laughter.
Hobbies/Interests:
My hobbies are event planning (wedding, baby showers, job fairs, health fairs, retirement and birthday parties), floral and balloon designs, wreath making, tree decorating, interior design, traveling, shopping in craft stores, hanging with friends and family, people watching, watching my favorite TV shows (NCIS, Law and Order, 911, FBI, Greys Anatomy, etc.), and having conversations with my granddaughter.
Favorite work memory in the past year:
My favorite work memory was when I was able to teach some of the residents how to do the Mississippi Mudslide.
